On my recent visit to S. Florida and visiting my 92 yr old grandmother at the retirement home I ran into the most interesting resident. My 7 yr old was with me and he was being very polite saying hi to all the residents. One particular resident asked him “Don’t you speak Spanish?”
He of course looked at me and lifted his shoulders because he didn’t know what to say. I told the lady in Spanish that he didn’t speak the language. She proceeded to get upset and mumbled to herself. “This imbecile Cubans for lack of better words, I can’t believe he doesn’t know Spanish.” She said other choice words all in Spanish torn me a new one and she wasn’t soft spoke. Everyone on the floor probably heard her geez. I motioned to my son to come to me and we slowly walked away. We kinda of laugh it off but maybe I should teach my son Spanish, I feel torn at time for procrastinating on it. My 19 yr old speaks both, sigh, well she made me think about this a bit, and I am considering adding Spanish to our curriculum. Anyone have any thoughts on this or are you in the same predicament I am in?
Now being back home I wish I would have taken a picture of her facial expressions, she was genuinely upset with me. Hmm maybe I will ask someone to take her pic for me, might motivate me to get on with my lessons.
I took a few days off to visit my family in South Florida, 4 days to be exact. My uncles says that is a doctors visit type vacation, I think it was just the right amount of time dear uncle.
I had to get up at 2 am for my 6 am flight. I wasn’t tired during the day at all. I tried to get a few small cat naps on the plane, but those didn’t happen like I wanted them to. My dear mother had me going all afternoon long, first and most important a visit to my 92 yr old grandmother. She is doing good and that made my whole day.
92 years old, so glad got to see her this year
Later off to dinner and dancing, this was going to be a nice time with my family. Only problem is we stayed out dancing till 3 am, then went to have a bite to eat. Didn’t get to bed till 5 am, oh dear I am just not used to this anymore. I did enjoy it because my family was with me but I realized that I am past that stage in life for sure.
Huge slice of pizza at 3am
Slept in on the second day till noon, and it was needed I felt like a steam train had hit me. I felt that way despite only having had 2 drinks the night before wow I am getting up there.
Also went to visit my brother in Orlando, I don’t have pictures of that part. That was Sunday’s fun. We got up at 2 am on Sunday and drove 4 hours stays all day visiting and drove 4 hours back. That was tiring to say the least. We got home Sunday night at 8pm and I needed to be up at 7am the next day to catch my flight back home. Wow I did notice a trend of getting up at 2 am. this time around.
Ah I learned a few extras too on this trip here is a short version, mostly about facebook. I will post that on another day, as it is a whole ball of wax in itself.
We had this for dinner on Tuesday night, and it was all gone by the end of the meal. My husband tried to save some for his lunch the next day, but he couldn’t resist a second portion and there went his lunch. (grin)

Oh my I really want to make these but my husband says I should stay away from them. What do you think a rebellious Cuban housewife will do? (insert a big grin here)
